India bans cash - causes problems for small businesses.

In another example of why it is better to buy rugs with Bitcoin, here is a message i received today from one of our suppliers:

"Would like to tell you that due to the demonetization policies of our Prime minister Mr Modi .
We are totally out of cash .
Leather was ordered and we could not pay the supplier in cash so he is still holding the leather with him for want of cash as leather for one piece can be bought in cash only they dont accept cheques .
the govt is only allowing us cash for 4000 Rs which is approx 50 GBP a week which we are spending in basic necessities .
It may be a month that the cash situation is restored and we are able to buy again .
though it appears too be a good move for black money etc but we are totally screwed up for the want of cash.
Waiting for the new currency to be distributed by the banks so that we can proceed with our daily business ."

How do you keep your rug from sliding around on the floor?

One simple solution - that doesnt involve buying an extra underlay - just use our anti-slip spray.

Simply spray the back of the rug and allow to dry. It takes about 2 hours. When dry the product is invisible and will totally stop the rug from slipping and creeping on all flooring including all types of carpets.

What rug is suitable for pollen allergy?

Spring is in the air! and so is pollen. Some people might think that pollen and rugs just dont go together. As a person with severe pollen allergy since birth i must say that applies to carpets and rugs that the pollen gets stuck too. A bare home without rugs - that's just so sad. I cant do that. You need a rug to feel homely. A bare naked home without rugs, and cushions and some art - that's like a prison!

There are different rugs that attract pollen to different degrees so I will show you some of my favourites that I haven't had any problem with. The key is: Find a rug that repells dust. That you can hoover or shake outside easily.

The bamboo rugs and natural cow hides (with short hair that are fairly light weight for shaking), and patchwork cowhides that we have are excellent choices.

Some Frequently Asked Questions about Workers Conditions

We have visited all production facilities and the conditions are good.
A customer recently asked us these questions about our rugs, so I thought I would share the answers direct from our rug production facility in India.

- do we use ecological cotton and hemp (and indeed which of our used materials are eco) in the hemp rugs?

we use natural cotton and hemp when used in the pile and are in body contact 

 

- are there any poisonous materials used in the manufacturing process?

none of the material used in manufacturer are poisonous 

- are any such remaining in the finished products?

none  

- are the workers themselves ever in contact with any hazardous/poisonous material?

no they are not ....also when they deal with latex or wool they are made to wear gloves and mask to protect from the  small particle which may be flying in the air and the latex may not stick to there skin after drying up  none of the raw material used are toxic 

- what is the average working day length for the workers?

the time of working are 9 to 6 in the morning with a 1 hr lunch session in the afternoon at 1:pm  

- how many days a week do they work?

6 days a week 1 day Is mandatory holiday as per the gudilines of Indian govt 

If they are requested to work on a holiday which is very rare they are paid twice the salary . 

- what is their pay in comparison to averages?

each person is paid according to there skill set like unskilled , semi skilled, skilled as it is a hand made industry . 

we follow the  guidlines and the labour laws as per the indian govt for unskilled , semi skilled and skilled they are paid Provident fund  which is mandatory for all the person in which the employee share is 12.5% and the company put 12.5% from there side as per the  govt guidelines.

We provide them paid leaves and good working condition as per the Laws governing us in India 

We are registered under the factories act of India also have been working with stores in UK and USA etc  so these systems are in place 

How do i clean my rug?

Have you got a flokati rug?

In a word: SHAKE IT! Shake it as often as possible. This not only makes it more fluffy, but also gets rid of any dirt hidden in the wool. Shaking or beating applies to all our rugs!

Vacuuming: 

You can vacuum rugs gently (but its better of course to shake flokati and highlander rugs). Our flat rugs are ok to vacuum. You should really shake these, which will make them look and feel new and fresh. If you have spilled something dry you can use the hoover pipe. 

When vacuuming the Flokatis/Highlanders, do not run the vacuum over it because the strands will get caught in the brush. Use the suction head of the vacuum (one without a rotating brush). We also recommend you to use a plastic comb every now and then on our shaggy rugs, and the flat woven rugs to comb out their tassles.

You can hoover the flat carpets normally, please make sure you don't use the brush setting for this.

Washing: 

The cleaning process for your Flokati or Highlander Rug is amazingly simple. It should be shaken outdoors periodically to remove dust. You may wash the rug with the mildest of wool soaps. You must avoid washing your Flokati Rug in High water temperatures, chlorine bleach as well as dry cleaning. You may wash the our woolen rugs with the mildest of wool soaps. Not avoiding the above will destroy the protective fiber content of the wool. For small sized rugs you may put them in your washing machine and wash on the Gentle Cycle. Air dry while avoiding direct sunlight, for the sun's rays will distort the color of your Rug. Washing your Rug properly will not damage it, but will merely enhance its unique and inviting quality, appearance and touch. If you have spilled something wet, you can use salt for small quantities, or if it is a big patch you can wash that area by hand with some soap and a moist cloth.

There are many quality Rug cleaners that will pick up clean and deliver your rug back to you, The usual charges are about £2.50 per square foot plus shipping costs. Have a look on Google for your nearest rug cleaner.
